Chapter 14

Teri

“So how it works is that I give you the money and tell you where to invest, but you handle the investments on my behalf?” I asked the wrinkled up old man in front of me as he peered down at me over his thick trifocals.

He nodded quickly and used his forefinger to push the heavy spectacles further up his face.

“Yes, any money made will be automatically deposited into your investment account. We can handle everything for you and you will receive monthly statements.”

I nodded my head as I took in all the information that my new investment broker, Mr. Plitzel, was telling me. I was gearing up to use Rich’s own money to buy over 15% of his company. Rich had given me his black card and added me as a signee so I could get whatever I wanted without his approval. He knew that I wasn’t the type of woman to make large purchases so he wasn’t concerned with me doing so. Too bad he had no idea that having that kind of access was perfect for a woman scorned.

“That’s perfect. Well, this is the information for the company I want to buy shares into,” I said as I slid a piece of paper containing the name, address and ticker symbol for Rich’s company.

“Wellicorp Enterprises, huh?” Mr. Plitzel looked at me with one eyebrow pointing straight to the sky. “This is very expensive stock. And you say you want 15%? Sheesh, that’s got to be at least…”

“I know how much it is and I’m willing to pay whatever it is that I need to.”

“Well, for this type of purchase, I can’t just do it overnight, there is a process…”

I raised my hand in the air to stop him.

“How long?”

“Well, I would have to contact the board and…”

“How long?” I repeated.

“Um….maybe a week or two? Depends on what happens when I speak to the Wellicorp board,” he informed me.

“Ok, I need it to happen as quickly as possible and I don’t want them to know anything about me. I can have my attorney act as my representative in the instances where you cannot.”

Mr. Plitzel nodded his head.

“Ok, well, thank you and I will have the money wired as soon as you can verify the amount.”

He nodded his head again as he gripped the papers that I had given him. I understood his surprise. I was sure that when I walked in, he wasn’t thinking I would be doing what was probably the biggest investment deal of his career all at one time.

“Well, it’s very nice doing business with you, Mrs. uh….”

“Hillman,” I stated emphatically.

“Mrs. Hillman? Are you any relation to…”

“Yes,” I cut in. “I’m Rich Hillman’s wife. A copy of the marriage document is in the pile of paperwork that I left you.” I motioned to the folder I’d left on his desk.

“Well, if you’re his wife, why are you…”

“I need you to not ask any questions. Everything that I’m doing here is legal. There isn’t much else that you need to know.
